Cookie policy

Last updated: October 1, 2026. This page details how HackNews uses cookies and browser storage. The general rules are in the privacy policy.

Summary

HackNews collects no personal data: no sign-up, no profile, no form. The only thing saved in your browser is your own cookie choice, kept in the browser's local storage so we do not show the notice again. Today the site loads no advertising or third-party analytics: visit counting is done by Umami, a statistics tool installed on our own server, without cookies. If that ever changes, this page is updated first and the banner asks for your permission again.

Cookie categories

The consent banner separates cookies and storage into these categories. Only the first one is active today.

  • Strictly necessary — the record of your cookie choice (banner). It is saved in your own browser and cannot be switched off, because without it the notice would reappear on every page. It contains no personal data.
  • Functionality — preferences that change how the site behaves, such as remembering a display choice. None are used today.
  • Statistics (analytics) — tools that measure visits with external services and may set cookies to tell visitors apart. Off today. If enabled, they only load after you say yes in the banner, and only in aggregate numbers.
  • Advertising and personalization (future) — ad networks that use cookies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad and measure its performance. Off today; if ads ever come to the site, they will only load after your permission.

The site itself collects no personal data

HackNews is a release calendar: it asks for no sign-up, has no comment form and builds no visitor profile. Release dates and synopses come from public databases (TMDB, AniList, Steam, Wikipedia), shown as summaries with a link to the source. The server keeps no access logs.

Third parties that can be involved

Only these external services can receive technical data from your browser (such as your IP address) when you use the site:

  • Google Fonts — text fonts; your browser connects to Google's servers when loading them.
  • YouTube — video trailers, embedded from each studio's official channel with the privacy-friendly player, which only loads after you click.
  • Umami — visit statistics, self-hosted on our own server, without cookies and without storing your IP.
  • Future advertising partners — none today. Any ad network will only be listed here, with its own privacy policy link, after the banner is set to load it with your permission.

Your rights (LGPD)

Under Brazil's General Data Protection Law (Law 13.709/2018), you may request confirmation of processing, access, correction or deletion of personal data. Since HackNews keeps no data that identifies visitors, there is usually nothing to deliver, but any request will be answered. Talk to us on the HackNews Discord.

Changes to this page

Any relevant change will be published here before it takes effect, with the date at the top. If a change introduces a new use of cookies, the banner will be shown again to ask for your permission. See also the privacy policy.
